Transactional leadership, is a term pioneered by Max Weber. It focuses on the exchange between leaders and followers. Transactional leaders operates on a system of rewards and punishments, where goals are set, and followers comply in exchange for incentives or consequences. This style thrives in stable environments where tasks are clearly defined, making it very effective in certain work settings.

Transformative leadership, a phrase created by Pulitzer-prize-winning author by James MacGregor Burns, and further developed by Bernard M. Bass centres on inspiring and empowering followers to achieve higher levels of performance.

It revolves around vision, innovation, and collective growth. Transformative leaders seek to challenge the status quo, fostering an environment of creativity, collaboration, and personal development.
